VRILISSIA is located on the foothills of Mount Pentelicus, covering an area of 3.8 sq. km, with a population of 32,417 residents according to the 2021 census.

Through a series of actions, the MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA plays a leading role in promoting the circular economy and proper waste management. By investing in sustainable practices, modernizing its vehicle fleet, expanding the biowaste collection network, and implementing separate collection across 10 waste streams, the MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA succeeded in diverting 32% of its total waste from landfill in 2025.

By launching a dynamic public awareness campaign (information kiosks, door-to-door distribution of 3,500 brown kitchen bins and biodegradable bags, etc.), the MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA achieved the active participation of the local community in a collective effort focused on environmental protection and a sustainable future for the next generations.

The results recorded by the Municipality in diverting green (garden) waste (77% by weight) as well as organic kitchen waste from landfill are particularly impressive. With the development of a brown bin network across the entire Municipality, along with the collection of green waste and organic waste from street markets, separately collected biowaste now accounts for 26% by weight. In parallel, more than 3,000 new trees were planted in VRILISSIA in 2025.

The MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA continues on this path, implementing a large-scale tree-planting strategy aimed at strengthening urban greenery.
