MUNICIPALITY OF PENTELI was created by the union of three municipalities: Penteli, New Penteli, and Melissia. The headquarters of the MUNICIPALITY OF PENTELI is in Melissia, and the new municipality consists of the Local Community of Melissia, the Local Community of New Penteli, and the Local Community of Penteli.
Penteli is a suburb located 17 kilometers northeast of the center of Athens, surrounded by the mountainous terrain and pine forests of Mount Penteli.
It has an area of 29.498 square kilometers and serves as the residential endpoint at the northeastern edge of Attica, delineating the basin of Athens.
The current Mount Penteli was known as Vrilissos, and the paradox lies in the fact that the mountain got its name from the city established on it, rather than the other way around.
The MUNICIPALITY OF PENTELI has experienced significant development in recent years, showcasing rich historical findings to visitors, such as the Palace of Plakentia, the Observatory, the Holy Monastery, and more.
