The MUNICIPALITY OF AGIA PARASKEVI is located at the northeastern edge of the Athens basin, 9 km from the center of Athens. It extends along the foothills of Mount Hymettus, uniquely combining the mountain massif with the urban environment. It covers an area of 7.93 square kilometers, and its official population stands at 62,147 residents (2021 census), though reliable estimates suggest a total population exceeding 80,000.
AGIA PARASKEVI has been a distinct Municipality since 1963. However, the area occupied by the modern city has been inhabited since 508 BC, as it was part of the ancient Athenian Municipality of Phlya of the Cecropis tribe. Today, it is a modern, vibrant, and open city. It is a “City of Culture,” as for the past two years it has hosted one of the largest Cultural Festivals in the region, with many local cultural and artistic groups active within the Municipality.
It is a “City of Sports” serving as the headquarters for many athletic clubs and mass sporting events with massive participation. It is a “City of Education,” as it houses the campus of the oldest and largest non-state higher education institution in Greece. It is a “City of Commerce,” with numerous shopping centers, restaurants, and cafes acting as a pole of attraction for people of all ages.
At the same time, however, AGIA PARASKEVI is a city that “dialogues” with nature; it coexists inextricably with the forest and is in direct contact with the mountain. It offers its citizens and visitors impressive viewpoints, as well as opportunities for walks and mountain activities such as hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and picnics.
