HELLENIC RECOVERY RECYCLING CORPORATION (HERRCO), as Greek law foresees, runs the System of the Blue Bins and the Blue Bells since 2003 as the Recycling System licensed by the Hellenic Recycling Agency (HRA). It was founded by industrial and commercial enterprises in the Greek market, which either place packaged products in the Greek market, or manufacture packaging materials.

The contribution of the System of HERRCΟ is of decisive importance, which is constantly demonstrated by the results recorded for the Blue Bins and Blue Bells. More specifically, in 2024, thanks to the systematic support and cooperation of an extensive network —including over 3,950 Affiliated Companies, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece and 94% of the country’s Μunicipalities, 35 Recycling Sorting Centers, as well as the valuable participation and support of citizens— HERRCO managed not only to meet but to exceed its legal obligation by 152%, recycling 505 thousand tons of packaging materials, compared to a mandatory target of 330 thousand tons.

Since 2003, HERRCO has recycled more than 9 million tons and has provided more than 426 million euros for investments and operating expenses in order for the System to cover effectively the needs of the population. The Blue Bins placed in the neighborhoods of the country have exceeded the number of 180.000 and the collection vehicles that have been delivered to the Municipalities are 544. In 2023, the cooperating Municipalities carried out 130.000 collection routes for recyclable materials which ended up at the 35 Recycling Sorting Centers (RSC) all over the country.
