The UNIT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (UEST) constitutes an educational and research unit of the SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING OF NTUA, with more than 40 years of experience in the preparation and implementation of European and national projects on environmental management (e.g. the management and treatment of municipal and industrial solid waste, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, wastewater) promoting circular economy and bioeconomy, and thus, developing management plans, as well as designing and implementing innovative technologies and developing prototype systems.

UEST collaborate with universities, research institutions, public as well as local authorities and the private sector, aiming to improve education, research, technology and innovation. More specifically, UEST has successfully implemented more than 200 environmental projects using national and European funds (LIFE, Horizon Europe, Erasmus, Prima, Interreg, EuropeAid, H2020, NSRF, e.t.c.), and therefore, has carried out a number of projects concerning the integrated management of municipal solid waste & specific waste streams at regional and national level.

In addition, the UEST laboratory consists of the latest generation technological equipment (ICP-MS, FAAS, GC-MS, TOC, ΤΝ, MW etc.) covering a wide range of analytical techniques. It operates in accordance with EN ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standards and is accredited by the National Accreditation System (ESYD).
