The REGULATORY AUTHRORTY FOR ENERGY, WASTE & WATER (RAAEY) is an Independent National Regulatory Authority tasked with monitoring, regulating, and supervising the energy market, as well as controlling, regulating, and overseeing issues related to water service provision and urban waste management in Greece. It was initially established as the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERA) under Law 2773/1999, and with Law 5037/2023, the Authority was renamed to RAAEW and its mandate expanded to include responsibilities for Water services and Urban Waste Management.
RAAEY delivers significant added value to citizens through:
- ensuring transparency and reliability,
- enhancing competition in the energy markets,
- maintaining the smooth operation of infrastructure in the sectors of energy, urban waste management, and water, and
- protecting and empowering consumers.
It oversees:
- the smooth functioning of energy markets by boosting competition and shielding consumers from unfair practices, aiming for safe, clean, and affordable energy, and
- regulated activities, with the objective of effectively managing networks and delivering services in the areas of energy, urban waste management, and water.
It supports:
- the Energy Transition and the Circular Economy. By developing strategies for the rational use of natural resources, conserving energy and water, improving service delivery, and progressing toward a Zero Waste Society, it enhances:
- environmental protection, thereby contributing to improved quality of life and worth-living, integrated development.
