The main purpose of FODSA PELOPONNESE (Solid Waste Management Agency of the Peloponnese Region) is the holistic, sustainable and integrated management of solid waste at a regional level, harmonized with the National and Regional Waste Management Plan (ESDA/PESDA). It focuses on promoting the circular economy, recycling, and environmental protection. Key Responsibilities and Objectives:
- Integrated Management: Design, study, construction and operation of projects/infrastructure for the utilization and disposal of solid waste.
- Circular Economy & Recycling: Promotion of sorting at source, composting and recycling of materials (e.g. through Multi-Centers).
- Environmental Protection: Creating a cleaner environment and reducing the environmental footprint.
- Education & Awareness: Actions to inform citizens and students on issues of proper waste management.
- Compliance: Ensuring that the Local Management Plans (LWMPs) of the Municipalities are in line with the objectives of the Regional Planning.
FODSA acts as a link between local authorities (Local Government Organizations) for a unified approach to the problem of waste.
