The ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPALITIES OF ATHENS–PIRAEUS (PESYDAP) was established in 1983 as a Public Law Legal Entity and a Local Government Organization. It currently comprises 23 member municipalities.
PESYDAP designs and implements horizontal, inter-municipal sustainable development initiatives, delivering added value and strategic benefits to its member municipalities. The Association possesses the necessary expertise and state-of-the-art technical infrastructure to undertake programmatic agreements for the preparation of studies and the implementation of projects, in cooperation with Local Authorities, State Institutions, and private-sector enterprises.
Since 2003, PESYDAP has operated within its facilities the country’s only Inter-Municipal Center for the Care of Stray Animals (DIKEPAZ), providing tertiary-level veterinary care. The Center is fully equipped with advanced veterinary infrastructure, specialized animal rescue ambulances, modern animal accommodation facilities, an incineration unit for deceased animals, and an integrated biological waste treatment system. To date, DIKEPAZ has provided medical care to approximately 60,000 stray animals. PESYDAP is also responsible for the fire protection of Mount Aigaleo, focusing on prevention through the deployment of advanced digital technologies and an extensive network of water reservoirs supporting both aerial and ground firefighting operations.
