The MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA is located at the foothills of Mount Pentelicus, from which it derives its name, as in ancient times, Mount Pentelicus was called Vrilissos. In 1949, it became a Community, and since 1990, it has been an independent Municipality. It covers an area of 3.8 square kilometers, with a population of 32,417 residents according to the 2021 census.

Through a series of initiatives, the MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA has taken a leading role in promoting recycling and proper waste management. By investing in sustainable practices, modernizing its fleet of vehicles, and expanding the bio-waste collection network, the municipality successfully diverted 35% of its total waste from landfill disposal in 2024. With the implementation of a comprehensive public awareness campaign, the MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA has achieved active community participation in a collective effort aimed at environmental protection and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

The results of the separate bio-waste collection have been impressive, with the amount collected in brown bins increasing by 1.300% compared to 2023. Additionally, mixed recycling increased, with the amount collected in blue bins rising by 9.1%. At the same time, more than 2,000 new trees were planted in Vrilissia in 2024. The municipality continues on this path, implementing a strategy of large-scale tree planting to enhance urban greenery.
