MUNICIPALITIES CENTRAL UNION OF GREECE established by the <\/i>Resolution of November 3rd, 1927 by the 1st Mayors\u2019 Conference. Articles <\/i>of this Resolution regulate the Union\u2019s view, management and organization <\/i>and laid the ground rules for their resources and management.<\/i><\/p>\n

In 1929 followed recognition of the Union as a legal entity and accompanied <\/i>by a new statute, in 1931. It reported as a \u201ccompound of Municipalities <\/i>and Communities of Greece\u201d. Metaxas\u2019 government changed Union\u2019s <\/i>procedure and granted \u201cLocal Review\u201d magazine, edited by the Director of <\/i>Local Government, Ministry of Interior.<\/i><\/p>\n

Union abolished in 1941 by Legislative Decree 71\/41 during WWII. After war, <\/i>local government institutions called Central Government to allow KEDE\u2019s <\/i>reestablishment. During the 4th Municipalities Conference of Greece, in <\/i>1951, participants were asked to decide on the new Union\u2019s constitution.<\/i><\/p>\n

Professor C. Papahatzis took over to prepare draft law \u201cOn reconstitution <\/i>of the Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece\u201d, as it happened <\/i>in reality.<\/i><\/p>\n

After restoration of Democracy in Greece in 1974 and despite positive <\/i>changes that occurred in Greece -in spite of the increased role of local <\/i>government attempted in \u201980s- Union\u2019s institutional framework remained <\/i>intact. Presidential Degree 197\/78 defined objectives of its statutory local <\/i>associations and KEDE\u2019s central union operating framework. Also recorded <\/i>purposes of statutory local associations and the central association is to <\/i>promote municipal authorities.<\/i><\/p>\n

Greek Agency for Regional Development and Local Government (ETAA) <\/i>founded in 1985, as Union\u2019s scientific advisor. Five years later, an SA which <\/i>providing consultancy services \u201cInformation, Training, Local Development\u201d <\/i>founded and in 2005 Local Government Institute (ITA) started operating.<\/i><\/p>\n

With the passing of the law 3852\/10 called “Kallikratis”, the abolition of the <\/i>communities subsequently led to the issuance of the Presidential Degree <\/i>75\/11, in order to further modernize KEDE\u2019s operation.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
