The Prefecture of Chania has a population of <\/i><i>~ 155,000 permanent residents, which nearly doubles during the summer <\/i><i>months due to increased tourism, it covers an area of ~ 2,400 km2. <\/i><i>DEDISA SA employs 405 staff members (including 10% scientific personnel) <\/i><i>and external consultants for specific scientific subjects.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Its responsibilities include:<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>\u2022 the managing and operation of the \u0399ntegrated Waste Management <\/i><i>Facility comprising of a Mechanical Recycling &amp; Composting facility and a <\/i><i>Sanitary Landfill with a Leachate Treatment Unit.<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><i>the collection and transportation of municipal solid waste, utilizing a fleet <\/i><i>of vehicles equipped with GPS for route optimization,<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><i>the collection and managing bulky waste and green waste,<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><i>the collection of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment upon <\/i><i>agreement,<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><i>implementing source separation programs for recyclable materials and <\/i><i>biowaste,<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><i>operating a \u201cdoor-to-door\u201d collection program in the old town of Chania,<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><i>information and raising public awareness.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>The Integrated Waste Management Facility of Chania has been operating <\/i><i>since the spring of 2005 and was the second municipal solid waste <\/i><i>management facility that operated in the country. It currently manages <\/i><i>more than 100,000 tones of waste on an annual basis. DEDISA SA has <\/i><i>developed comprehensive awareness-raising programs targeting <\/i><i>citizens, professionals, visitors, and youth, utilizing modern communication <\/i><i>methods. It has also developed the digital platform \u201cRE-USE by \u0394\u0395\u0394\u0399\u03a3\u0391\u201d, <\/i><i>aimed at promoting the reuse of functional products to prevent them from <\/i><i>becoming waste.
