It covers a total area of 109 km2 and the resident population is approximately 49,000 (2021 census). It is a peri-urban municipality that includes parts of the massif of Parnitha (which has been proclaimed National Park since 1961).<\/p>\n<p>At the same time the Municipality expands its growth prospects by carrying out many projects of technical and environmental nature thus solving accumulated problems of many years and improving the citizens\u2019 standard of living.
